History behind gallica roses
The history of Gallica roses stretches back thousands of years. Gallica roses originally came from Babylon, but were introduced to Italy 700 BC and then to France. The city of Provins in France was the center for the further breeding of the roses.
Roses were first cultivated for their beauty and fragrance. They later became popular in monastery and medieval gardens, where they were used both ornamentally and for the production of rose products. Their historical heritage makes them a fascinating choice for any garden that wants a classic and timeless look.
Care and placement
Gallica roses love sun but actually thrive in partial shade. They are quite tolerant, so they will also do well in a drier location.
They require minimal pruning, it is best to prune after flowering in July-August. This will ensure better flowering the following year.
