The story behind Hulthemia persica
Hulthemia hybrids have their origin in the rare species Hulthemia persica , a desert rose from Central Asia, which has been a botanical challenge to cross with traditional roses for many years. The unique eye in the middle of the petal is the characteristic of the species and was for many years considered almost impossible to preserve in hybrid varieties. Through dedicated breeding work, it has now been possible to create roses where the eye marking is clear and brightly colored - at the same time, the varieties have become robust, richly flowering and well suited to gardens in Nordic climates.
Characteristics and growth form of Hulthemia hybrids
Hulthemia hybrids are known for their compact growth, high flower production and strong colours, often combined with contrasting centres, which highlight the variety's special expression. The varieties flower throughout the season and thrive in sunny areas with well-drained soil.
They are developed with a focus on disease resistance, which results in stable plants. The roses are very hardy, we have them both in the ground and in large pots in our rose garden. The rose hips are removed over the summer, so they bloom right up until frost.
