How to plant gladiolus

Plant the gladiolus tubers in well-drained soil in sunny locations where they have room to develop strong stems. Planting depth depends on the size of the tuber, but generally they should be 20-30cm deep to ensure good wintering, while also being more stable and less likely to fall over. If they are planted higher they may be a little exposed in winter.

Gladiolus requires regular watering during the growing season, and a light application of fertilizer stimulates flowering.

Gladiolus – characteristics and flowers

Gladiolus develop tall, slender stems with several flowers per stem. The flowers can be single or multi-colored, ranging from pastels to bold, intense shades. Their upright growth makes them suitable as background plants in beds, along paths or in pots on the patio.
