If you love rhubarb, it's a good idea to have at least 3 different varieties. An early variety, one for summer use, and a late variety that can be harvested in the fall.
Rhubarb is one of the earliest vegetables in the garden. You can harvest the early varieties as early as April - this allows the early varieties to grow in peace while you harvest the late varieties.
Rhubarb grows from a tuber and needs periods of peace so that it can send nutrients down to the root.
Remember to fertilize rhubarb regularly during the growing season, so you will have beautiful rhubarb next year too.
