How to care for a hydrangea paniculata

Hydrangea paniculata differs from macrophylla in that it is more upright and tree-like in growth. They are called lilac hydrangea in Danish, as the flowers are upright, like those of lilacs.

Hydrangea paniculata is generally robust and adapts to many soil types, as long as the soil does not dry out completely. A sunny to slightly shaded location provides the best flowering and a beautiful color development throughout the season.

Flowering and maintenance of lilac hydrangea

Hydrangeas have a long flowering period, with the flowers often changing colour as the season progresses. Many varieties start out as green flowers, then change to white and finally pink. It varies slightly from variety to variety in how long they stay white and how quickly they change to more red shades.

Faded inflorescences can either be left as winter decorations or removed for a tidier look.
